Welcome to CALL-EJ!

Under the current Russian invasion in Ukraine, we editorial board members cannot take any concrete action against it. However, our role is to help global CALL researchers improve language education, and for that, we need the free flow of ideas and quality, peer-reviewed research from CALL researchers. Given the international and collaborative nature of research, any restrictions on receiving, reviewing, and publishing not only harm individual CALL researchers – who may themselves have different political views from their governments – but also authors from other countries entirely. Therefore, we have no action of sanctions for the handling of papers that include Russian authors, and we editorial board follow the usual practice on “Fair Play”: “The editors and reviewers should evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.” We stand by our belief that restrictions on publishing are inappropriate and unethical, and any exceptions should be narrowly crafted. CALL-EJ wishes to express its support for all civilians caught up in conflict worldwide, and our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine in particular at this difficult time.
